Dalai Llama, when asked what surprised him most about humanity, said: “ Man. !!!
Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health.
And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present;
the result being that he does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die, and then dies having never really lived.”

There has been many Suicide cases in Kota. As most students are below average, not good in studies, or not interested in studies, just spend time and donate to coaching Institutes.

A 17-year-old IIT aspirant, who was studying at a coaching institute in Kota, allegedly jumped to her death on Thursday ( 28 th April 2016 ) as she was disappointed with her scores in IIT-JEE Mains, police said. This is the fifth case of student suicide in Kota this year.

IIT-Roorkee expels 73 students for poor grades. A former director of IIT, Kharagpur, recounted that in 2006, around 15-20 first year students were expelled on account of poor performance. On 24 th June 2015 a IIT Kanpur post graduate student (IIT-K) slit his wrist in a suicide bid. Last year,( 2014 ) the IITs saw an estimated 14 student suicides, probably the highest ever across these elite colleges. Jitesh Sharma, a third-year student of chemical engineering at IIT Bombay, allegedly committed suicide. In Feb2014 A 21-year-old student at IIT Kanpur has committed suicide in his hostel room by drinking poison. This is the second suicide in the last three years by a student at India's premier engineering institute.
The myth that only those who are extremely brilliant and perform well get into IITs has now been busted long back. ( 13 % ) Thirteen per cent (about 110) of first year students, in IIT-Madras, have failed in Mathematics, followed by 10.3% (about 87) in Physics and 7.5% (63) in Chemistry. According to data provided by Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras, about 840 students got admitted to various streams of engineering, last year. Eleven per cent of students failed, in Maths, in the first semester, the number increased to 13 per cent in the second semester and 10.3 per cent faced difficulty to crack Physics in the second semester. It is not only those students who failed to clear core subjects, but nine per cent failed in thermodynamics too.
Written on 25th May 2015. Yesterday was IIT JEE advanced exam. Today CBSE standard 12 results are expected.
Someone can get angry on opinion. Can differ and argue on " point of views ". But no one can get angry on data, and facts. You can not argue with facts.
I am teaching for 25 years now. In this article I am refraining from revealing any of my opinions. By the end of the article the conclusions drawn by you, on the data presented, is completely your perception, and I am not interested in any arguments on your perceptions.
If you analyze data of successful candidates in IIT JEE for many decades, you see on avearge only 2 or rarely 3 girls are amongst the top 100. Seen articles celebrating " success of girls " from Tamilnadu, saying ... " 3 Tamilnadu girls make it in Top 500 ". Generally the society is silent on the success and achievments of the 99% good boys. Praise for them is rare. I keep wondering why is it not 50% boys and 50% girls in top 100, or top 1000, or top ....
Several decades of biased favors towards, girls, drums beaten on " equal opportunity ", and zillion articles on " woman empowerment ", has created this result, and performance.
Back in 80s when I was in standard 11-12, Bihar CET ( rather Bihar CEE ) rank of girls were given by adding 25 marks to their scores. I did not see, or hear of any agitation by any woman, against this biased approach. " Equal Opportunity " indeed for the boys. Even after that number of girls with ranks better than 500 were very rare.
Every student scoring 96% or above are NOT making it to IIT. The percentage of students qualifying in IIT JEE advanced drops sharply as the standard 10 percentage drops from 96%. Any student making it to IIT with less than 88% in standard 10 is very rare. The standard 12 CBSE marks cutoff for IIT as seen since last few years is 92% . Also since many years it has been seen that on average, generally students score 3% less in standard 12 compared to that of standard 10 marks percentage. I wonder why the coaching institutes even accept students for IIT JEE coaching when they get less than 94% ?
Last year ( 2014 ) 75,000 students in CBSE got CGPA 10. This year 96,000 scored a perfect 10. Most of these students do not even come in top 1 lakh, to qualify IIT JEE main. Though every student feels they have scored close to 99% in standard 10, CBSE, and CBSE has " unfairly " bunched them " with all others " in group of " perfect 10 " !!. Very rare to see some student admitting that she may be scoring around 95% or say 91%.
Too many coaching institutes are too eager to take " donations " from one and all. Too many people are eager to donate any money, for their daughters as well. Equal facilities and opportunities. Most coaching institutes do not have any " rejection criteria ". Donations from none is refused. Fathers of " Brilliant daughters " are providing for all goodies. At all India level FIITJEE has close to 4 lakh students, out of which only around 3000 are making it to IIT JEE finally. This is less than 1% result. Most people do not understand percentage well. Imagine I had 110 students, and 1 made it to IIT JEE with 10,000 rank, will that be acceptable to most people ?
Last year ( 2014 ) Jawahar HSS (CBSE), Neyveli, saw 59 students out of 64 qualifying in IIT JEE main. 38 of those 59 qualified in IIT JEE advanced. ( Six out of 11 girls and 32 out of 48 boys cleared it. Last year 23 of the 61 students cleared the exam. Since the inception of the school in 2005 by the Jawahar Educational Society and Neyveli Telugu Samithi Educational Academy, 129 students of the total 356 cleared the examinations, which roughly means that one in every three students passing out of the school cleared the competitive examinations in the last eight years. )
While in Bangalore schools, mostly it is 0 ( zero ). In some rare cases it is 1 and very rarely it is 2. Only Deeksha had around 7 out of 250 students. FIITJEE Magnolia, Bannerghatta Road, around 15 out of 250. In these 7 and 15 ranks of 5000, 8000, 10000 all are included. Christ college near Dairy circle has a cutoff for standard 11 admissions ( since many years ) as 92% for girls, and 88% for boys. If someone analyzes data for many years, the number of students making it to IIT from Christ college is very rare.
This year ( 2015 ) also, ( note the word also ), 30 students at DPS failed in the exams that that are held for promotion from 11 to 12. Last year ( 2014 ) 13 were not given admission in standard - 12 and were let go to join other schools, such as " Integrated coaching's ".
Too many times in too many houses, debates have " proved " that a rank of worst than 1000 in IIT JEE is not of much use, but coaching institutes will not shy from including students with ranks of 10000. I have not met anyone in Bangalore, who is eager to go to IIT Patna, or say IIT RopaR. Yet while analyzing performance of coaching Institutes, all and any rank is included.
Since last 3 years from L&T south city and Brigade Millennium combined, only 1 ( one ) boy per year had qualified in IIT JEE ( advanced ). This year also I do not think this is going to change. I know all the boys in these colonies.
Some girls prefer to try for Medicine, just to avoid " Maths ". The number of seats in JIPMER Pondicherry are around 50, at AFMC Pune around 30, similar at AIIMS Delhi, CMC Vellore. When IIT JEE with 10,000 seats is " so tough " what happens with 50 or 30 MBBS seats ?
Yesterday one of my students who appeared for IIT JEE advanced exam, told me ... " Sir at my exam center I did not see any girls ". I told him, some may have been there, better you did not waste your time, looking for " girls ". This is not the correct scientific way to look at things. 1.2 Lakh boys had qualified ( in 2015 ) while only 28,104 girls had qualified in IIT JEE main. 27660 students did not pay the fees for IIT JEE advanced and thus opted out from the exam.
Since 90s the IIT JEE single digit rank holders are amongst those who are representing " Official Physics, Chemistry or Maths " olympiads. KVPY toppers, NTSE toppers partly fillup the top 500 ranks. While I see most parents in Bangalore, blissfully unaware of " Official Olympiad " exams. Govt of India, IAPT ( Indian Association of Physics Teachers ), IACT ( Indian Association of Chemistry ) Teachers, AMTI ( Association of Maths Teachers of India ) are doing so much, but yet Bangalore parents are not reachable.
At all India level there are many examples where a student of standard 10 has represented India, at IMO ( International Math Olympiad ) or say AphO ( Asian Physics Olympiad ). How many students and Parents in Bangalore even aspire for these is not known.
I am assuming you have already read ...

I meet many parents. Most dont know that CBSE, and ICSE server was hacked a few years ago and the data was analysed by a techie. In June 2013 many anomalies in the marking system of CBSE and ICSE were exposed, by Kolkata-born Debarghya Das. He proved that the marks are tampered by the boards, which is actually unfair. After the marks of all the students were pickedup and graphs plotted, it was realized that an interesting incongruity in the marking system: there are 33 different scores unattained between the passing mark of 35 and the maximum of 100 by the nearly 1,50,000 who appeared for the ICSE (Class X) exam. According to Das' findings, not a single student got the following marks: 36, 37, 39, 41, 43, 45, 47, 49, 51, 53, 55, 56, 57, 59, 61, 63, 65, 67, 68, 70, 71, 73, 75, 77, 79, 81, 82, 84, 85, 87, 89, 91, 93. Similarly, in the case of ISC (Class XII exam) a set of 24 marks between 40 and 100 were found to be unattained.
This proved that the boards were giving grace marks. Different schools, as per their relations and clout with board people were managing different grace marks. In simple the premier systems are fudged and does not reflect the " true " result of the students. Around 150,000 students take the ICSE and around 65,000 take the ISC from in and around India.
He wrote : the exact same numbers were missing from everybody's results in all subjects. There were specific numbers, in no real pattern, that were missing for the distribution of the entire distribution of all subjects achieved by all students. And these missing numbers were regularly interspersed on the number line. For example, 81, 82, 84, 85, 87, 89, 91 and 93 were visibly missing. I repeat, no one in India had achieved these marks in the ICSE. 32, 33 and 34 were visibly absent. This chain of 3 consecutive numbers is the longest chain of absent numbers. Coincidentally, 35 happens to be the pass mark. From the 66 numbers between 35, the pass mark, and 100, the maximum possible, ONLY 33 WERE ATTAINED.Let me repeat that, 50% of the possible pass marks were attainable in the ICSE. Here's a complete list of unattained marks -
36, 37, 39, 41, 43, 45, 47, 49, 51, 53, 55, 56, 57, 59, 61, 63, 65, 67, 68, 70, 71, 73, 75, 77, 79, 81, 82, 84, 85, 87, 89, 91, 93. Yes, that's 33 numbers!
We've all heard about "grace" marks. It's always been a huge myth and an outcome, many believe, of constant religious faith. Well, it's myth no more. I infer that they gave away grace marks to everyone who got a 32 to 34 to turn it into a 35 or more. Clearly, marks are tampered.

Did you find out how many students are amongst top 1000 from Bangalore ?
How many girls from Bangalore made it amongst top 1000 ?
How many students from L&T South City, Brigade Millennium, Shobha Apartments are amongst top 1000 ?
From Patna, Children of taxi driver, mason, farmer, daily wager/farm labourer, helper in photo lab, and migrant workers are among the successful candidates. The father of one of the successful candidates, Neeraj Jha, is a taxi driver in Kolkata. Neeraj, secured 1,217th rank. From Patna, only one aspirant, Ayush, who got 358 of 504 marks, found a place in the top 100 without a single one in the first 10 ranks from IIT Guwahati zone.
From Narayana School J P Nagar, Bangalore no one qualified in IIT JEE advanced 2015. Many students of DPS who held failed in standard 11 exams, and were refused promotions to standard 12, had joined these kind of institutions.
At all India level gender wise distribution of the candidates ( after IIT JEE main results ) are as follows .......

Hope by now you have forgotten that in 2015 close to 14 lakh student appeared for IIT JEE...
This is the unfortunate reality ! the HARD truth !
Let donation to coaching institutes by parents of Girls continue more !!
Written on 7th August 2015, Nearly 58% of the candidates who qualified for the JEE (Advanced) this year have passed their Std XII exam from CBSE board. Of 26,456 candidates set to enter the 16 IITs and other premier central engineering institutes, 15,311 are from CBSE board, which has managed to retain its position for past many years. CBSE is followed by Andhra Pradesh (2,155), Maharashtra (1,787) and Rajasthan (1,610). The share of Andhra and Maharashtra boards stands at 7.14% and 6.75% respectively.
On 6 th August 2015, it was reported that Over 2,000 students dropped out of IITs in last three years. Actually in the last three years (2012-15), 2060 students have dropped out of 16 IITs. In the same period, 2352 students dropped out of 30 NITs. In the last three years (2012-15), 2060 students have dropped out of 16 IITs. In the same period, 2352 students dropped out of 30 NITs. On 7 th August 2015 it was reported that " Depression is the way of life for IIT Students ". Once Students secure admission in IIT, many steadily go downhill, fighting demons such as poor self esteem, a heavy study load and a cultural mismatch. IIT Roorkee bears this out. Out of the 1,050 students admitted every year, only 980 graduate. This week, the dean of students made a presentation highlighting the rise in depression cases at the campus."Pushed by parents to enter IIT, they soon realise engineering is not what they wanted to pursue as a career," said director Pradipta Banerji. The institute saw the highest number of dropouts from 2012-13 to 2014-15, according to a statement the government tabled in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. But this is not IIT Roorkee's story alone. A staggering 4,400 students dropped out of IITs and NITs in the past three years due to various reasons including "academic stress", said Union human resource development minister Smriti Irani. IIT Roorkee saw 228 dropouts, followed by IIT Kharagpur at 209 and IIT Delhi at 169.
Perhaps the biggest challenge students face is getting a grip on their new-found freedom. Every month, about 45 students approach student counsellor at IIT Bombay, Amita Tagare, for help to deal with academic pressure and competition from other performers in the class. "Studies take a backseat for many as soon as they enter IIT. They feel that by cracking the entrance they have won the battle. Soon they realise that they are far behind their batchmates and their self-esteem takes a dip," said Tagare. IIT Hyderabad is setting up an early intervention faculty committee, which will act as a buddy for first-year students struggling to balance their new-found freedom with academic pressure. "When they enter the institute, students really do not know how to handle freedom," said director UB Desai.
"Lots of students drop out," added Rupa Murghai, student counsellor at IIT Delhi. Almost 3-4% of students leave the course half-way through as a result of this disconnect, she added. Three years ago, NIT Trichy stepped in when instances of depression started to go out of hand. The institute stretched its orientation programme for the new students to 21 days from the earlier one day. "We now have counsellors to help students. In addition, the faculty ensures students are able to cope with academics," said director Srinivasan Sundarrajan. These may be small steps, but they ensure dreams do not die young.

Not a Single girl could be in top 100. Riya Singh, the topper among the girls this year ( 2016 ), got an all-India rank of 133. Last year,( 2015 ) there was one ( 1 ) girl candidate among the first 100, ranked 47. In 2014, there were five girls in the top 100. Of the 36,566 who qualified to join IITs from the 1,47,678 appeared, girls comprised 12.49%. At Bangalore Milind Kumar Vaddiraju, who has secured all India rank of 189 ( Note worst than the Girl Topper with 133 rank ), had topped CET Karnataka.
Of the total candidates qualified in JEE-Advanced, 71 were Overseas Citizens of India (OCI), People of Indian Origin (PIO) or foreign students.
In the IIT Kharagpur region, which includes Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal, Andaman and Nicobar, Jamshedpur, and Chhattisgarh, a Vizag student topped the list, with only 1 student from West Bengal making it to the top 100. Total only 3 students in top 100 from IIT-Kgp region.

According to statistics shown by Dr Mahendra Nath Pandey, minister of state, ministry of human resource development, in the period between 2014 and 2016, the number of students who left the sixteen IIT's in the country was 1,782. As for the 13 IIMs, the number of students who left their courses mid-way was 104. Four students dropped out of IIM-B in 2015-16; this number stood at two in the year before. "Students tend to dropout when if they don't get a good branch. If they get architecture in IIT and computer science in NIT, they will leave IIT for NIT. Such things do happen a lot," he said.
