Gertrude Elion is not important enough for Modern Women to know her name In this modern times, when ” women liberation ” is reigning supreme
(
and may be quota as well ;-(

… I am not sure Gertrude Elion is role model for how many ‘ ? modern ? ‘ women !
Though I choose her as one of my Heroes …..
Till date Gertrude Elion is the Last Nobel laureate ( 1989 ) to make it without a Ph.D !
In the beginning of 20 th century there were many famous names, becoming Nobel laureates without a Ph.D. A shy mechanical Diploma holder named Albert was also one of them. But I understand this is increasingly difficult.
It is an NP Hard problem …. to decide if Gertrude Elion is the last Nobel laureate without a PhD or not …. as we have to wait for ever to see the end !

If you had gone to orkut and searched for Gertrude Elion you will know how many people are bothered about her in Orkut which has Many Million members !
I live in the same ‘ world ‘ as you do … and thus I am well aware that ” being a Nobel laureate ” is NOT ‘ enough ‘ to make some one worth ‘ Role Model ‘ !!!
